2nd Post for Chapters 32-36

from page 247...

How can Kumalo just let the small boy forget Gertrude, his mother? How can he himself forget her, she is his sister. Why didn't they look for her the morning that they were preparing to leave for Ndotsheni. She could have been anywhere. Maybe she was just out for a walk, and didn't want to get left behind. After all the trouble he went through to help her and save her, how can he leave her in Johannesburg and forget about her?

  1. I would have to agree with you as it is quite astonishing how you could forget about your own relative, especially one thats in your own family!! Even if your some really bad guy, I don't think that you could ever forget someone that close to you. Do you think this is realistic?

  2. Post 4 Chapter 32-36
I agree that it's sad they decided to forget about her but I partially agree with their decision. I think for Stephen Kumalo to make that decision must have been very difficult but I think he made the right decision for the young child and the Kumalo family. Gertrude came from a life of crime, poverty and prostitution. This is not a promising lifestyle for a young child. I think Stephen knew that for the young child to grow up to be the best human being he could be Kumalo knew it would be best for Stephen and his wife to raise the child. I think Stephen wanted to give Gertrude a second chance but when she decided to run away he knew she couldn't be trusted and decided to leave without her.
